Having a job or volunteering helps to develop a socially valued role and a meaningful place in our community. You can get a better sense of what is happening in your community, build on your independence and do something you really feel passionate about.
Meet Renee from our Rockingham Neighbourhood! Together with her Support Team, Renee discovered her talents, abilities and found an area of work that she would definitely be interested in pursuing. Yepp you guessed it – it had to be something with horses.
Renee has had a love for horses since she was a little girl and with the help of her Support Workers recently applied for a volunteer position at Riding for the Disabled. Full of excitement Renee wanted to start practicing interview questions right away and even set up a mock interview with her Support Team.
But she didn’t have to wait long for the real deal. Renee was invited for an interview at Riding for the Disabled and impressed everyone with her confidence and incredible knowledge around horses. The organisation happily offered her a permanent volunteer position and the young women is now helping with the grooming, feeding, and riding of the horses.
Renee is absolutely beside herself to spend the day with her beloved four legged friends, the farm is happy to have someone as knowledgeable and experienced as Renee and we just love to see how greatly people with disability contribute to the workforce. Win, Win, WIN!
