Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) refers to purpose-built housing for people with disability who need specialist features or support to live safely at home.

These homes are designed to enhance mobility, accessibility and daily living; giving you the freedom to easy movement with wheelchairs and other mobility aids. The SDA homes, create a safe space where you can live independently with the right support team. We partner with trusted SDA providers to offer high-quality homes across Perth, Peel and Albany, and work closely with you, your family, and your support network to find a living solution that suits your needs, preferences and lifestyle.

What we offer through Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

We work alongside experienced housing providers and design your supports with you — helping you feel safe, comfortable and in control of your daily life.

Through SDA, you can expect:

We partner with SDA providers to offer safe, accessible and well-designed homes across Perth. These homes are matched to your needs and lifestyle, so you can feel confident in your space and supported to live how you choose.

Your support team is carefully built around you. We work with your family, nurses, therapists and other supporters to make sure everything from daily routines to long-term goals is considered in your home environment.

Accessing SDA can feel complex but you are not on your own. We work with you to help you understand the process, eligibility, funding and connect with providers to find a home in a location of your choice.

SDA homes are specially designed for people with higher support needs. Each of the different SDA design categories are built with specific features and different levels of assistance. Some of the key features may include accessible bathrooms, communication aids, assistive technology or robust design elements, supporting your safety, well-being and independence at home.

Specialist Disability Accomodation (SDA)

SDA refers to specially designed housing for people with very high support needs or functional impairments. It provides physical access features to improve safety, comfort and independence.

Eligibility for SDA is determined by the NDIS. You’ll need to meet specific criteria related to the nature of your disability and the intensity of your housing support needs.

There are different SDA design categories including Improved Liveability, Robust, Fully Accessible and High Physical Support. We help find options that suit your needs and preferences.

No, SDA funding covers the cost of the housing itself. Support services like SIL are funded separately through your NDIS plan and can be layered with your SDA support through Interchange WA.
