Melvin – The Magic of Marketing

Melvin has been at Interchange WA for two years. In that time, she has risen to the challenge time and again. As Interchange WA and the NDIS landscape changes, she has kept pace in communicating that change and even implementing it.

As the Marketing & Communications Lead, Melvin’s voice is heard across all communications to our customers and employees alike (except for this article, which is a surprise to celebrate her work).

Connecting People

The key to the job is identifying people who require NDIS services and connecting them to the right teams. When a new customer goes looking for disability supports, Melvin is there, providing the information they need to know Interchange WA is right for them. Whether it’s our website, pamphlets, or social media, the first point of contact is often her.

But even after that first contact, she’s always in the background, keeping tabs on every success our customers and Support Workers experience. From Sophie finding a home in our SIL housing to Swati winning a finalist position at the WA Disability Support Awards. Melvin is the narrator of Interchange WA’s impact.

Seeing the good work that others do at Interchange gives her a sense of pride in her role, and she believes that, by sharing the stories she sees every day, she inspires others to do good work too.

Every Detail Matters

Melvin understands that, to get results, you need to go through the process and work hard at each stage. The journey from concept to deliverable can be a long one, but commitment is key.

For example, the Interchange WA website. It took months of consultation, collaboration, fine-tuning, and decision-making for every detail and at every level. Days and nights of negotiating changes, proofreading, and searching for errors lead to the website you can access easily now. And that makes it all worth it.

Melvin takes this approach to all of her work. Each stage of work is rigorously prepared and edited before becoming part of the whole. Whether that’s email newsletters, news, social media, or anything else. Even if she’s not the one writing it, it’s all edited under her watchful eye to get the best results possible.

The Power to Empower

In typical marketing fashion, Melvin espouses the virtues of all four of Interchange WA’s values and won’t downplay any of them. All of them are important. But, when pressed to pick just one, she settled on Belonging.

People give their best when they feel like they belong. It empowers them to express their other values, and to pass on that empowerment to others.

She says her favourite part of the job is the work culture and shared purpose that Interchange WA is driven by. She feels like she belongs here, with the team she collaborates with and the managers who have mentored her. So, she strives to pass on that feeling into her work every day. To help give Interchangers a sense of belonging by celebrating their wins, keeping them informed, and reminding them each day that they are all supported.

When she’s not at work, Melvin is striving to live a healthy lifestyle and cherish her young daughter.

Thank you for your commitment, Melvin. You are awesome
